Buns (Rolls)

Please note:  I have corrected an error in this recipe. I forgot to tell you to let the buns rise again after you have rolled them out and before baking. I hope this didn't cause any confusion.

Fresh buns straight out of the oven! I can't think of a nicer thing to eat after a long day. You can just eat them with nothing on them, slowly picking them apart, or stuff them with a little butter and eat them as the butter is dripping out. Ack, now I want to go make some more...

Once they have cooled off they are great for serving at dinner, or just to eat with jam or honey or whatever else you want to put on them.

Mashed Potatoes and Gravy


Mashed potatoes and gravy are a yummy part of our Sunday dinner. They are easy to make but it does take some practise to get them right. I'm still working on the potato part, I tend to add too much milk which obviously makes them a little less fluffy. My husband on the other hand is old hat at both the gravy and potatoes.

The other nice thing about potatoes and gravy is that they make good leftovers since they are easy to warm up later in the week, and you can even use them in other ways, such as shepherd's pie.

Crockpot Roast Beef

Not long after I began dating my husband sixteen years ago I was introduced to his family's tradition of Sunday roast beef dinner with all the fixings: (s)mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies (corn, peas, green beans, carrots, etc) and occasionally rolls. It took our family a number of years before we started to emulate this tradition, maybe because we weren't very good at cooking roasts, or maybe because it took work to make the potatoes, but somewhere along the way we have got into the habit of almost always making a roast beef dinner. Here is how I make the roast, it actually is pretty simple, and it is nice walking into the house after church to the smell of a wonderfully tasty roast cooking.


Most of the time our church meetings are fairly early so it's easiest to have something I can leave in the crock-pot to cook while we are gone for our three hour block. Plus I love how tender the meet is after cooking this way.

Snow Icecream


This is something me and the kids have done a few times. I got the idea from a friends blog Raising Memories. I have tried it two different ways and I like the condensed milk version much better. It was thicker, creamier and sweeter. On both occasions though my kids loved it and wanted more. Can't you tell?





This year I did something a little different. I let each child color their own so it was a bit more personal to them. It was a nice addition to the fun.

Crepes

So our children always love it when we make crepes. It normally means a tasty meal with lots of fruit and possibly some icing sugar as well. Sadly, in the past, we haven't made them very often since, with only one frying pan, it takes a while to make enough crepes for six children. That was the past though, now, armed with two frying pans, we will hopefully be able to keep up with the starving masses.
